Dr. Nikola Protrka, Assistant professor, Certified Digital Forensic Court Expert
Dr. Nikola Protrka, is a distinguished digital forensics expert and cybercrime investigator with a career spanning over 25 years. Since joining the Croatian Ministry of Interior in 1998, he has handled a wide spectrum of cybercrime investigations, from computer fraud and ransomware to DDoS attacks and digital evidence preservation, combining operational experience with strategic insight. His international engagement includes roles with EU Agency CEPOL and ENISA, participation in EU Twinning Projects, and delivery of training and expertise to different stakeholders domestic and international.
Appointed as an IT expert witness in 2003, he has since provided authoritative testimony in numerous court cases, bringing rigorous forensic standards to Croatian legal proceedings. Since 2011, he has served as an Associate Professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Criminal Investigation and Public Security, Zagreb, Croatia, where he teaches Digital forensics, Cybercrime, AI and Data protection.
Dr. Protrka blends hands‑on cybercrime investigation, court-level forensic authority, academic mentorship, and international cooperation.
